Tell Congress to Support the Palliative Care and Hospice Education Training Act

National POLST is a proud supporter of the Palliative Care and Hospice Education Training Act, PCHETA S.2243, a bipartisan bill to improve the lives of patients with serious illness and their care partners.

If enacted, this bill would:

  • expand federal support of research around palliative care including better treatments for pain and other symptoms, and the use of POLST, and
  • establish and expand training programs in palliative care for doctors and the other members of the healthcare team.

What the letter says:

Dear Representative:

I am a constituent in your district. I am requesting your support for the Palliative Care and Hospice Education Training Act, PCHETA S.2243, a bipartisan bill to improve the lives of patients with serious illness and their care partners.

I support this bill because it will help ensure that a sufficient and well-trained workforce is ready to serve patients and their families as the aging population needs more healthcare resources.  Additionally, this care can also help control some costs to our health care system.

This bill if enacted, would create a national public education campaign for patients and healthcare teams about palliative care availability and benefits, including the use of POLST. It would expand federal support of research around palliative care, including better treatments for pain and other symptoms, and the use of POLST. The bill would also establish and expand training programs in palliative care for doctors and other members of the healthcare team.

Please help by endorsing this bill.
