The National POLST Paradigm is hosting a webinar on Thursday, January 25, 2018, on Patient and Surrogate Preferences on the Massachusetts Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (MOLST) Form.
The purpose of the presentation is to share data and results from ~300 MOLSTs administered from 2012-2014 in a long-term acute care hospital. These data incorporate select Information from corresponding medical records. We will discuss preferences on the MOLST for forms administered by physicians vs. advance practice clinicians (PAs or NPs) as well as preferences by surrogates vs. patients.
About the presenter
Elizabeth Chen, PhD, MBA, MPH is Assistant Commissioner for Health Care Licensing and Quality at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. She entered public service after more than 30 years of leadership experience in health care, including serving as a CEO of biotech companies, president of a health care professions school, and president of an out-patient network of eye care providers. In addition, Elizabeth has served on 15 health care and higher education boards since the early 1990’s. Her research focuses on populations with late-stage, multiple chronic illnesses, and her body of research on MOLST was conducted with colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Boston, prior to becoming Assistant Commissioner. Elizabeth received her PhD in Gerontology from the University of Massachusetts, MBA in Multinational Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and MPH in Health Policy from the Harvard Chan School of Public Health.
